Cross Days is an erotic visual novel developed by 0verflow, a Japanese company. The game was first released for Windows on March 19, 2010, and later adapted as a DVD game and for the PlayStation Portable (PSP). The storyline is a dramatic slice-of-life that centers around Yuuki Ashikaga, a high school student who becomes the love-interest of two girls during his second term. The game has a nonlinear plot, giving players the ability to change the course of events during gameplay.
Cross Days is the third installment of the School Days series and follows Summer Days. The game requires little interaction from users, but still manages to engage players with its storyline. In December 2008, 0verflow announced the development of Cross Days. However, the game was postponed six times from February 2009 to March 2010 before its eventual release.
Upon release, the game performed moderately well but was later illegally distributed on peer-to-peer (P2P) networks. Unfortunately, a trojan horse disguised as the game was released, resulting in the online publication of personal information belonging to unsuspecting users.
Following the game’s release, Cross Days was adapted into other media formats. A manga was serialized in the Kadokawa Shoten magazine Monthly Comp Ace from April to August 2010, while three light novels were published from September to October of the same year, along with a strategy guide. A radio drama was also broadcast during development, and the original soundtrack was published by Lantis from April to July 2010.
